Thailand has already established itself as a popular destination for Hollywood and international filmmakers. More than 100 films have already been shot in the country this year alone. Once, during lunch in a trendy cafe in Phuket, we met a famous Russian actor. There were a couple of people in the group who immediately ran to the star with a request for joint photos, but also to find out at the same time which areas Russian media personalities prefer to live in Phuket.
We got the photo, we found out the location – the secluded Cape Panwa hotel. I immediately remembered – but it was in this hotel that Leonardo DiCaprio and the film crew lived during the filming of the movie The Beach. By the way, we approve of the choice – we tested the hotel personally (and the photo on the cover of the article is from there). The real spirit of the tropics that reigns in it is really hypnotizing.
Cape Panwa’s atmosphere somehow reminded us of The Slate Hotel. By the way, when he was still Pearl Phuket, Daniel, one of the producers of the film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, stayed there.
As we have already said, there are many films being shot in Thailand. The country, as part of programs to promote its “cinematic” attractiveness, offers foreign filmmakers good incentives, including financial ones. The result is obvious – in the first 5 months of this year, the country earned almost 3 billion baht on 186 foreign films shot on its territory. Most of the productions were in Bangkok, 123 films were shot in the capital.
